Many people love the warm sun. In a short period of time, laying under the sun will make us look good. Most of people are really enjoying their time to do sun bath where the full exposure from the sun causes most of the wrinkles and age spots on our faces. It might be the number one cause of skin cancer.
Our skin is exposed to the sunlight from childhood onwards. The real damage to our skin is caused by the UV (Ultraviolet light rays) leaving long term skin damage where the effects are not seen until later. Protecting our skin from the sun damaging rays is vital for health reasons.
Here are some of the tips you can take to protect your skin:
- When possible, try to avoid direct sunlight between 11 AM – 3 PM.
- Wear sunglasses with total UV protection regularly in sunny conditions because the UV radiation can damage tissues of the eyes that can lead to progressive, irreversible loss of vision. Also use sun glasses in snow conditions to prevent ‘burning’ of the eye surface called snow blindness (sun reflection from the intense white of the snow).
- If you are over 65, you should still avoid the intense heat of the day since there is an increase in risk of a heart attack.
- Children need extra protection from the sun. Encourage children to play in the shade and apply sunscreen regularly.
- Use and re-apply sun cream regularly and ensure that it has the UV protection, especially after swimming and drying off with a towel.
- Wear clothing to protect as much skin as possible. And wear cosmetics and lip protectors with a Sun Protection Factor of at least 15.
